300 YEARS OF HISTORY
THE STORY.
TIME IN THE FLAVORS
There is a place in Poggio alla Malva where time seems to stand still, a place where history is not read in books but breathed in the air, amid scents of fresh bread and notes of wine that tell centuries of traditions. It is here, among the hills that embrace the Arno River, that Bottega Pecchioli came to life more than 300 years ago.
The earliest written traces of the Bottega take us back to a remote time when Poggio alla Malva was a hamlet of farmers and river fishermen. At that time, the Bottega was a storehouse of salt, oil, wine, grains, candles and coal, the beating heart of a united and industrious community. Papers from historical archives speak of a river that not only divided but united, connecting Poggio alla Malva and Brucianesi through the “ford grande,” a symbol of sharing and exchange.
As time passed, the Bottega evolved. After the mid-1700s it became a food store as we understand it today, transforming into a landmark for generations. It was a tavern, a bakery for over a century, a milk and butter store, but also a meeting place for those seeking the necessities of life and sharing. In the late nineteenth century, thanks to Amerigo and Orlando Pecchioli, the Bottega became much more: groceries, wine mescita and even the Office of the Royal Post and Telegraph.
From the heart of Poggio alla Malva, when the hamlet lived on agriculture and fishing, comes a centuries-old story that weaves together lives, traditions and flavors, taking shape in a Bottega that would become a symbol of an entire community.
300 YEARS OF STORIES, TASTES AND TRADITIONS THAT STILL LIVE ON.
During the difficult interwar years, the Bottega faces its toughest test. Bombing destroyed part of the premises, but the determination of the Pecchioli family was not extinguished. Giovanni Pecchioli, Orlando’s grandson, devoted himself with passion and intelligence to its rebirth, giving back to the community a place that was much more than a store: a symbol of hope and resilience.
Today, entering the Bottega Pecchioli, one feels the weight and charm of this long history. Fresh bread, Tuscan cigars, cured meats cured in the cellars, Carmignano oil and wine-recognized as among the best in the world-are living witnesses to a tradition that continues to live and renew itself.
The Bottega Pecchioli is not just a place to shop, it is an experience that transports one into the past, an open window on an authentic and profound Tuscany. Every flavor, every scent tells the story of a generous land and of a family that, for 300 years, has lovingly guarded the soul of the land.
Between the challenges of war and the rebirth of a unique place, Bottega Pecchioli has become a custodian of authentic flavors, a memory of a past that lives on today through the products and stories that tell its soul.
